New Jersey Institute of Technology Appoints Top Real Estate Broker Norman B. Baker to School of Architecture Board

NEWARK, October 14--The New Jersey School of Architecture (NJSOA) at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) recently announced the appointment of Norman B. Baker, a leading commercial real estate broker in the New York Metropolitan region, to the NJSOA Board of Visitors.

Baker is the executive vice president of CB Richard Ellis Real Estate Services, Inc., Saddle Brook. The company was formerly known as Insignia/ESG. Baker has specialized in the leasing and sale of office properties for more than 25 years in New Jersey and the United States. He has worked at the firm since 1993 and during those years has consistently been one of the firmís top producers. Although Baker currently resides in Manhattan, he is a New Jersey native son, born and raised in Newark. Baker graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark, and Rutgers University, New Brunswick.

Many of the signature properties in New Jersey have been either leased or sold by Baker. He has represented many Fortune 500 companies as a tenant representative, in addition to acting as an exclusive leasing agent for institutional owners and private developers, including MetLife, Prudential, Alfieri, Brandywine Realty Trust, the Mandelbaum Family, and the Witkoff Group.

In 1999, Baker sold the Empire and Barbizon hotels in New York to the Northstar Group for $177 million. He also sold a 21-acre property to ProLogis Realty Trust, then negotiated a 168,000 sq. ft., 15-year lease with Konica Photo Imaging, and subsequently sold the fully leased property to Teachers Insurance. Shortly thereafter, he was named a leading commercial real estate broker in the New York Metropolitan Area.

In 2002, Baker completed a 40,000 sq. ft. lease with the U.S. Department of State, Fort Lee.


NJSOA is one of the largest degree accredited architecture schools in the U.S. granting both bachelorís and masterís degrees in architecture, the only architecture school in New Jersey offering the bachelorís degree in architecture, and a national leader in the integration into the studio curriculum of computer-aided design (CAD).  

NJIT is a public, scientific and technological research university enrolling more than 8,800 students.
