Directors of Labor Relations, Human Resources Appointed at NJIT
NEWARK, Feb. 16 -The New Jersey Institute of
Technology, 323 Martin Luther King, Blvd., Newark, has announced the
appointments of a new director of labor relations and a new director
of human resources. Philip Dowdell, New Brunswick, an attorney, was recently
appointed director of labor relations after having served the City
of Newark for seven years, the last four as its labor and employment
section chief. Dowdell, who was hired as part of the university's
initiative to advance the interests of the university and its unionized
constituencies, has been with the City of Newark since 1994. Dowdell
received a juris doctorate from Georgetown University, Washington,
D.C., and a bachelor's degree in political science from Howard University,
Washington, D.C. Noel Malnati, Mountain Lakes, was promoted to director
of human resources, after having served as NJIT's manager of human
resource development since 1999. Malnati led the reintroduction of
the new employee orientation program, co-authored the university's
current employee handbook and led the employment education and training
program. Malnati received a master's degree in business administration
from the University of Leicester, England and a bachelor's degree
in International Politics from New York University. NJIT is a public research university enrolling over 8,200 bachelor's, master's and doctoral students in 80 degree programs through its five colleges: Newark College of Engineering, New Jersey School of Architecture, College of Science and Liberal Arts, the School of Management and the Albert Dorman Honors College. Research initiatives include manufacturing, microelectronics, multimedia, transportation, computer science, solar astrophysics, environmental engineering and science, and architecture and building science. According to Yahoo! Internet Life magazine rankings, NJIT has been America's most wired public university for three consecutive years.
