What is the Consortium?
The Consortium for Pre-College Education in Greater Newark is a collaboration between East Orange, Irvington and the Newark public school districts and the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers-Newark College of Arts and Science and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Funded by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education since 1986, the Consortium aims to provide educational programs and college bound activities for over 450 students in grades seven through twelve. Our population is more often low-income, Black or Latino and the first of their generation to aspire and attend college. The universities in the Consortium offer a broad array of educational programs to students interested in going to college.

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is a four year comprehensive technological university that offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in the areas of architecture, science, mathematics, engineering, technology, management and other science related disciplines. Many programs at NJIT emphasize applied learning, use of the computer, research and public service, all in response to a rapidly changing society.

Rutgers-Newark College of Arts and Sciences (RNCAS) is a comprehensive institution of higher education offering bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in the full range of liberal arts and sciences, law, management, criminal justice and nursing. Undergraduate students at Rutgers-Newark can study computer science, business, accounting, biotechnology, nursing, fine arts, education as well as more than twenty other liberal arts, science and pre-professional degree programs.

The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) offers medical, dental and other doctoral degrees. Through its School of Health-Related Professions, the associate, baccalaureate and masters degrees in cooperation with higher education institutions in the areas of nursing and allied health.
