University Enrollment Tops 8,800

Total student enrollment at NJIT this semester is 8,829, which includes 5,645 undergraduates and 3,184 graduates. This represents an increase of nearly 7 percent compared to the fall semester of 1999.

According to William Anderson, assistant vice president of enrollment planning, the additional undergraduate student population is a result of an increase in retention combined with larger freshman and transfer classes. Enrollment in graduate degree and certificate programs also increased in all four colleges. Programs in information systems, biomedical engineering, telecommunications and management have proven to be very popular, especially with part-time students.
A detailed enrollment report will be available shortly.
