Chair Named For Information Technology Program

Fadi Deek has been named chair of the Information Technology (IT) Program, an undergraduate program with concentrations in bioinformatics, chemical processing, computer-aided engineering design, e-commerce and infrastructure engineering.

His aim will be to broaden this array of specialty areas by introducing additional concentrations in other undergraduate programs. To facilitate this interdisciplinary cooperation, the IT program will now be university-wide, with the chair reporting directly to the provost.

Deek has been a member of the Department of Computer and Information Science
at NJIT for 15 years. He has extensive experience in curriculum development and is the recipient of numerous awards, including the NJIT Board of Overseer’s Public and University Service Award and two Excellence in Teaching Awards.

Deek maintains an active and funded research program. He has recently obtained a significant grant from Lucent Technologies for curriculum development. Deek also is project director for the $2.5 million NJ-Tower grant on Information Technology Research and Education, funded by the Commission on Higher Education of New Jersey.

Deek received his Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from NJIT and will continue to serve in his current position as vice chair of the Department of Computer and Information Science.
