University To Host Architecture ExhibitBeginning Oct. 19, NJIT will host a month-long exhibition, "The Language of Michael Graves: Architecture and Product Design," a retrospective of the renowned architects work. The free exhibition, open to the public, recognizes the long-standing relationship between NJIT and Graves. In 1991, NJIT awarded an honorary doctorate to Graves for his contributions to the world of design. His work at NJIT includes Laurel Hall and a master plan to unify the design of the campus. The exhibition will be in the Main Gallery of the New Jersey School of Architecture through Nov. 19. Drawings and models of buildings designed by Graves, as well as art pieces and items from his various home product lines, will be on display. A gala benefit will be held, Oct. 18, to open the show, featuring a lecture by Graves and specially designed posters and limited edition prints commemorating the exhibition. Proceeds from the sales will benefit the New Jersey School of Architecture Scholarship Endowment. In 1999, Graves received the Presidents National Medal of Arts Award and was recently honored by House Beautiful Magazine as one of the "Giants of Design."
