Chairperson, Mechanical Engineering

An expert in fluid flows has been named chairperson of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Nadine Aubry http://www.njit.edu//ME/Faculty/aubry.html

joined NJIT, in 1996, as the F. Leslie and Mildred Jacobus Professor in the Mechanical Engineering.

After receiving a B.S. and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute, in France, Aubry attended Cornell University, where she received a Ph.D. from the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. She spent a post-doctoral year at Cornell before accepting a faculty position in the mechanical engineering department of the City College of the City University of New York and at the Levich Institute, a well-known center for the research and study of fluid flows.

Aubry also holds joint appointments in the Department of Mathematical Sciences and in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at NJIT. Her expertise is the modeling, numerical simulation and control of fluid flows. Aubry has been the recipient of many awards, including the Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF). NSF, the Office of Naval Research, the W.M. Keck Foundation, the Petroleum Research Fund and private companies, have supported her work. Recently, she led a group of researchers at NJIT and Princeton University, who were awarded the New Jersey Center for Micro-Flow Control by the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology. In addition to being director of the new center, she is also co-director of the W.M. Keck Laboratory for Electro-Hydrodynamics of Suspensions.

Aubry has been serving on numerous national committees and panels, including the Executive Committee of the Division of Fluid Dynamics of the American Physical Society.

Chairperson, Humanities And Social Sciences

An expert in international relations, diplomatic history, war, technology and society, and the history of science has been named chairperson of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. Karl Schweizer http://www.njit.edu/Directory/Academic/HUM/Faculty/pictures/schweizer.html joined NJIT in 1988.

He received an M.A. from the University of Waterloo and his Ph.D. from Cambridge University. Schweizer is a Fellow of the British Royal Historical Society and has been a visiting scholar at Yale, Princeton, Cambridge University, and the London School of Economics. Schweizer has written or edited 11 books and has published more than 120 articles, chapters and reviews, in addition to giving many presentations at national and international conferences.

Information Systems Analyst

Leslie Cole has joined NJIT as an information systems analyst in the Department of University Information Systems. Coles holds a B.S. degree from Rutgers University, as well as a computer programming certificate in the "Top Gun" program at Chubb Computer Services. He will be assigned to work in Prema Teklinski’s group on Student Information Systems.
