Heart Surgeon, Telecommunications Expert To Receive Honorary Degrees

A revolutionary heart surgeon, a distinguished alumnus recognized for his leadership in the telecommunications industry and a leader in protecting the environment while promoting economic development will be honored at NJIT's spring commencement, Friday, May 18, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, in Newark.

Victor Parsonnet, M.D. http://www.sbhcs.com/services/cardiac/team/md_parsonnet.html , will receive the Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa, for his pioneering work in kidney and heart transplantations, coronary bypass surgery and cardiac pacing.

Victor A. Pelson http://www.njit.edu/campaign/message.html#pelson, '59, one of NJIT's most illustrious graduates, will receive the Degree of Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa, for his professional and personal achievements in more than 40 years at AT&T, and Daniel J. Watts http://merc.njit.edu/html/prof2.html , who will be named to the Panasonic Endowed Chair of Sustainability, for his distinguished career addressing environmental issues and concerns.
