What They’re Saying“My name is Jack Gentul, and I am the dean of students. Last week, my
life and the lives of my 8- and 12-year-old sons were forever changed
when my wife of 23 years was lost in the Trade Center disaster. True to
her character, she died because she felt a responsibility to see that
others went to safety. Last Tuesday (Sept. 11), we experienced what was arguably one of the most hateful acts that have ever been committed against innocent human beings. But it also taught us, and continues to teach us, about the power of our collective goodness. Today, and for the months to come, it is imperative that we reach out to one another, in friendship and understanding, to combat evil in every possible way. Let us not be driven by hatred, but by a common resolve to demonstrate, at all costs, the best of what it means to be human. Our cause is no less than the preservation and uplifting of humanity itself. Let us work on behalf of one another to become better than we ever were. Let us become a community, which is bonded by compassion, acceptance, decency, understanding and love. It is in these values and beliefs that we will find the power and wisdom to prevail.” Jack Gentul
