Proposals Sought For Research Experience For Undergraduates

The New Jersey Information Technology Opportunities for the Workforce, Education and Research (NJ I-TOWER) Project, funded by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education, is accepting proposals in computing-related projects for the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program.

The REU program makes it possible for undergraduates to join, in meaningful ways, ongoing research programs or projects specially designed for undergraduates. Students gain experience first-hand how basic research is carried out, and to contribute substantially to the undertaken research. Selected student proposals will receive a stipend of $2,000, which will be applied to the balances of students with outstanding loan commitments. The REU project must be completed by the end of spring 2002 semester.

Interested students should confer with an NJIT faculty member to prepare a two-page proposal explaining how the project will provide both an in-depth research experience, as well as a broad hands-on exposure to a range of areas. Faculty are to supply a letter of recommendation for the student, expressing commitment to assisting the student complete the project, along with the proposal by Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, to Durgamadhab Misra, dmisra@njit.edu, as an e-mail attachment. Awards will be announced by the end of the fall 2001 semester. Priority will be given to students who have not received previous NJ I-TOWER/REU grants.
