A Message From The PresidentNJIT President Saul K. Fenster at spring commencement.
I have advised the university’s Board of Trustees of my decision to retire as your President effective on or about the commencement of the 2002-2003 Academic Year. The Board of Trustees is to begin the process of searching for a new President and that process is,
in fact, currently in the planning stage. The Board of Trustees and I are very confident that the search
process will be completed in a timely fashion so that my successor as President of the university will be
in office by the start of the 2002-2003 Academic Year. This timing is, I believe very propitious; it will see the university through completion of what will be the third Middle States Association visit during my tenure, completion of the third successful fund-raising drive during my tenure; and the start of a new Capital construction program of considerable scope. Finally, I have the satisfaction of knowing that NJIT is now a broadly based, nationally recognized, major research university. I am very optimistic about the prospect of new leadership to help lead the university to be even more successful in achieving its strategic objectives, thereby moving to the next level of excellence and national recognition. I, of course, will be available and extremely willing to assist in ensuring a very smooth and seamless transition. Events of the past weeks have only strengthened my deeply held feelings of affection for this magnificent university community. The stage is set for the next phase of robust university growth and development and I look forward to providing whatever assistance I can toward that end. Saul K.
