Community News BriefsNJIT Professor Elected Mayor Township Committee members elected Eugene Golub, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at NJIT, mayor of Freehold Township on January 4. Golub, a 30-year township resident, previously served on the township committee since 1996. He served as deputy mayor from 1998 to 2000. Golub chairs the township's subcommittees on planning, zoning, and engineering. He is co-chair of the township's Open Space Committee. As co-chair, Golub assisted the township in acquiring more than 7,400 acres of permanent open space. He also serves as the township's liaison to the Freehold Township Board of Education and the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education. NJIT Student Awarded Scholarship Jasmine Hulin, a business management major at NJIT, was awarded a scholarship from the New Jersey Nets and Devils Foundation. Hulin, a graduate from Montclair High School, served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, and the Montclair YMCA. She has participated in soup kitchens, tutoring sessions and as a camp counselor. Hulin says the experiences have taught her patience and compassion. The foundation announced the scholarship on December 7 at the Continental Airlines Arena prior to a Nets game. CECNJ 2001 Educator-of-the-Year Award Robert Dresnack, professor of civil and environmental engineering at NJIT, has been selected to receive the Consulting Engineers Council of New Jersey (CECNJ) Educator-of-the-Year Award. This award is given to an individual who, as a teacher or administrator, has had a positive impact upon the engineering profession. The award will be presented at the 2002 Engineering Excellence Awards Banquet, March 21, 2002 at Rutgers University, Neilson Hall, New Brunswick, NJ. Campus Construction Update In order to accommodate construction for the multi-purpose building, there will be no access to Cullimore Hall from the south side (Lot #2). The south doors will be closed for both entering and exiting Cullimore. Access to Cullimore Hall will be accommodated through the west and north doors and through the Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. entrance to Eberhardt Hall. Emergency exiting from Cullimore Hall will be accommodated through the north and west doors only. Both the city of Newark and State of New Jersey Fire Inspectors have reviewed and approved this plan. Please be aware of how to identify E-mail "Scams" and what to do if one is received. While we are taking steps to reduce the number of such messages, it is not possible stop all "Scam" messages. These messages often provide misinformation, offer you something for nothing or at a low risk, or ask for financial assistance. Please visit: NJIT DAILY PARKINGEffective January 29, 2002, NJIT faculty, staff and students who have a need to park on an occasional basis may purchase daily vouchers from the Bursar's office. Persons who need to park on a regular basis should purchase a parking permit at the office of Public Safety for the entire semester. Daily parking vouchers must be purchased in advance from the Bursar's window at the student mall. The cost of the voucher will be $5.00 per day, and a valid NJIT ID is required. An area of NJIT lot # 16 (located on Colden Street - across from Laurel Hall) has been designated as the daily parking lot. Daily parking vouchers must be presented to the public safety officer posted at the entrance to lot #16. At that time, the voucher will be validated and a stub will be returned to the holder for display on the vehicle's dashboard. The voucher is valid for one day's use.
