Teaching, Learning, and Technology @ NJIT

The Teaching, Learning and Technology group offered two faculty institutes during the January break. The Second Annual January Faculty Institute offered training in strategies, tools and techniques to use technology in teaching. This three-day event provides a strong foundation for the use of technology in traditional classes, distance learning and hybrid courses.

The TLT group also offered for the first time an Advanced Faculty Institute for faculty who had previously attended one of the Institutes last year. This two-day event offered participants the chance to build on techniques introduced in the first institute, attend new technology sessions and select workshops they were unable to attend earlier.

Participants attended sessions in both pedagogical issues such as Learning Styles, Assessment and Problem Based Learning, as well as technologies like Visio, WebCT, Virtual Reality Modeling, PhotoShop and Web Design.

Part of the success of the previous year's four institutes has been that faculty have the opportunity to work hands-on with new software and are then given licensed copies of the software that they use. There were also hardware prizes distributed at the end of the three days.

These institutes are presented with the financial support of the NJ I-TOWER whose mission includes disseminating Information Technology research and development through seminars, workshops and training. Teaching, Learning and Technology at NJIT is a collaborative effort by Computing Services, Instructional Technology and Media Services, and the Robert W. Van Houten Library.

Upcoming Faculty Institutes will be offered after the close of the semester in May, during the summer and again in the fall. Check their website at www.njit.edu/tlt/ for a calendar of workshops that are offered every week of the semester.
