The Board of Trustees of the Alumni Association of NJIT has selected 10 projects to receive the Seventh Annual Alumni Association Grant Awards. The Grants provide financial support and recognition to NJIT organizations and departments for the benefit of the University Community.

NJIT's Micro-electronics Center Developing Micro Mirror to Enhance Optical Fibers
An optical attenuator/switch that is a key component for optical communications systems is one of the MEMS devices being developed through the New Jersey MEMS Initiative, based at the New Jersey Institute of Technology Microelectronics Research Center. Working in collaboration with Bell Laboratories of Lucent Technologies, NJIT students and staff, led by Kenneth Farmer, professor of physics and center director, have developed "large-area" micro-mirrors, 0.7 mm on a side, for redirecting light along one or more optical fibers.

January 2002 Commencement
January Commencement at NJIT has become an exciting event. As the university continues its steady growth with each passing year, the number of January Commencement participants climbs as well. January 23, 2002 will prove to be the largest winter commencement to date at NJIT, as more students make the popular decision to walk.

Freehold Architect Donates $5000 Annual Scholarship to Help Architects at New Jersey Institute of Technology
An annual scholarship of $5000 was recently created by the architectural firm Ecoplan to support a student enrolled in the New Jersey School of Architecture (NJSOA) at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). "The scholarship is to be given to an undergraduate or graduate student who is industrious and demonstrates great promise as an architect, but who also needs the money," says Martin Santini a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and benefactor of the gift.
