NJ Share / HOT 97.7 / NJIT
Wednesday, September 6, 2006
Campus Center Green, 2pm-4pm

New Jersey Organ and Tissue Sharing Network (NJ Sharing Network) is a non-profit, federally certified, state approved organ procurement organization (OPO). An OPO is a program that acquires and coordinates placement of donated organs for patients on national transplant waiting lists. NJ Sharing Network is responsible for the recovery of organs and tissue for New Jersey residents currently awaiting transplantation and is part of the national recovery system.

In 1987, three New Jersey organ procurement programs merged into one, and NJ Sharing Network was formed. From its inception, NJ Sharing Network has set out to educate the general public as to the life saving benefits of transplantation with the goal of increasing number of organ donors. Government policy has also helped donation. The federal conditions of participation for organ donation, adopted in 1998, require hospitals to refer all deaths to organ procurement organizations (OPOs) for evaluation and to work collaboratively with the OPO on an approach for consent.

BLOOD DRIVE
Thursday, September 14, 2006
Campus Center Atrium, 10am-4pm

May 21, 2006 marks the 125th anniversary of the American Red Cross. On that day in 1881, Clara Barton founded the organization.

During our 125th year and throughout 2006, we will honor our 125 years serving the American public and celebrate our continuing role in American history.

Participate in the festivities and encourage your staff, donors and community members to do the same. We are part of a proud tradition and this landmark anniversary is a great opportunity to tell people about the many ways we help America every day and how important it is for them to support us as we begin our next 125 years.

Many generous Americans nationwide have been donating blood since the terrorist attacks on September 11 to ensure a sustained and secure blood supply for all Americans. Together with the Red Cross, these blood heroes are ensuring that the safest possible blood is readily available whenever and wherever needed - for the military, for other blood centers in America and for all 5,000 of America's hospitals.

We all expect blood to be there for us, but barely a fraction of those who can give do. Yet sooner or later, virtually all of us will face a time of great vulnerability in which we will need blood. And that time is all too often unexpected. From its beginning, the American Red Cross has formed a community of service, of generous, strong and decent people bound by beliefs beyond themselves. The honor, spirit and resources of the American people comes forth with neighbors helping neighbors in need - during earthquakes, floods, fires, storms - and also for the deeply personal and often quiet disasters that require a gift of blood

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Habitat for Humanity – Newark
Saturday, September 23, 2006
Campus Center Atrium, 9:00am

Habitat for Humanity Newark (HFHN) is dedicated to building simple, decent homes in Newark, New Jersey. We are focusing our efforts on one of Newark’s most economically distressed neighborhoods: the Central Ward. We’re proud that since our founding in 1986, over 50 families (and counting!) have achieved the dream of homeownership through HFHN.

ST. JUDE CHILDREN HOSPITAL
Culture Remix – International Day 2006
Wednesday, October 11, 2006 & Thursday, October 12, 2006
Campus Center, 9:00am

St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility anywhere. Discoveries made here have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. We are where some of today's most gifted researchers are able to do more science, more quickly. Where doctors across the world send their toughest cases and most vulnerable patients. Where no one pays for treatment beyond what is covered by insurance, and those without insurance are never asked to pay. We've built America's 3rd-largest health-care charity, with a model that keeps the costs down and the funds flowing, so the science never stops. All patients accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay.

BREAST CANCER WALK
Breast Cancer Walk – Newark
Sunday, October 21, 2006
Campus Center, 8:00 am

Hope Starts Here... In 2005, more than 400,000 participants in 100 cities across the country joined the American Cancer Society in our united fight against breast cancer. Together we raised more than $34 million to help fight this disease. More than just the name of an event, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer refers to the vital progress the American Cancer Society has made through research, education, advocacy, and patient services. Because of people like you, patients, survivors, and their families will continue to benefit from the Society's critical programs. Whether it is your first Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk or your tenth, we are happy you have chosen the American Cancer Society. We look forward to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer ...with you!
