Biographical Sketch:

General Marshall was born in Newark, New Jersey on 19 April 1946. He enlisted in the Army National Guard 16 September 1965. Attended basic training Fort Dix, NJ and advanced individual training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He graduated Infantry Officer Candidate School Fort Benning, Georgia in 1972. He has served in leadership assignments from platoon level through brigade. He has commanded a tank company, a combat support company and two tank battalions with his most recent command assignment as brigade commander 50th brigade with headquarters at Fort Dix, NJ. He has served on battalion, brigade and division staffs in both military intelligence and operations and training assignments. He has participated in joint exercises at the national training center at Fort Irwin, California with the 24th Infantry Division, the 9th Infantry Division and the 1st Cavalry Division. In July 1994 the 50th Brigade participated in a very successful warfighter exercise with the 42nd division at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. General Marshall previous assignment was Chief of Plans for the General's Staff, New Jersey Department of Military Veterans Affairs. General Marshall was federally recognized and promoted October 8, 1999 to the rank of Brigadier General in the position of Deputy Commander state area command with the Joint National Guard Headquarters at Fort Dix, New Jersey. General Marshall's military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (6th award) Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Reserve Component Achievement Medal with gold hour glass device, Desert Storm Service Ribbon, New Jersey Medal of Merit and the New Jersey Medal of Honor. General Marshall has also been awarded the Bronze Medallion Order of Saint George from the Armor Association of the United States and the Saint Barbara award of the Field Artillery Association. He is also a member of the Military Order of the Armored Knights and was inducted into the Officer Candidate Hall of Fame April 18th, 1996 at Fort Benning, Georgia. He has recently retired after 29 years of service with the Township of Montclair Police Department as a Captain and tour commander. He is married to the former Mary Clark and they have six children.


Military Education:

General Marshall's military education includes the non-commissioned officers academy and leadership development course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The armor officer basic and advanced course at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Tactical intelligence officers course at Fort Huchuca, Arizona the army command and general staff Officers Collage at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The defense equal opportunity management course, and army war collage, at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. General Marshall also attended the general officers training course at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas


Civilian Education:

General Marshall is a graduate of Roger William's University Bristol, Rhode Island with a bachelors degree in public administration and the Port Authority Police Command Collage at West Point, NY. He has completed requirements for a masters degree in strategic studies to be issued by the Army War Collage Upto institutional accreditation
