About Det 490
What Makes Det 490 So Unique?
Air Force ROTC Detachment 490 at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ enrolls approximately 35+ cadets, ensuring excellent one-to-one instruction by Cadre and upper-class cadets. The small Cadet Wing gives each student tremendous leadership opportunities that one would otherwise not have in a larger Detachment.
Detachment 490 offers incredible leadership training to prepare you for a successful future as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force. Our program will help you develop the knowledge and skills to vault you ahead of your peers. In addition, Detachment 490 offers scholarships to help cover college tuition and living costs.
Detachment 490's candidate selection rate has consistently trounced the national average. In addition, the selection rate for entry into the pilot, combat systems officer, and air battle manager career fields has consistently surpassed the national average. What Detachment 490 lacks in size, we more than make up for in quality. If you want a career as an Air Force officer, you want to start it here at Detachment 490!
