Physical Training

Physical Training (PT) is an integral part of Leadership Lab and is required. Cadets must attend 2 PT sessions a week. PT is generally held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 0700-0800, Friday afternoon from 1300-1400, and Wednesday immediately after Leadership Lab from 1715-1815.

In addition to participating in PT twice a week, all cadets are required to pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) every semester. The test consists of 4 events and points are awarded for performance during each event. A maximum of 100 points can be earned, with a passing score of 75 points. The Air Force has two physical measurement components to the PFT: height/weight standards and the PFT. The height/weight standards and PFT score charts are documented in Air Force Instruction 10-248. Click here to view the standards.

All events are conducted back to back on the same day. The body composition measurement is conducted first, followed by the 1 minute push up test (click here to view the push up assessment video), the 1 minute sit up test (click here to view the sit up assessment video), and finally the 1.5 mile run. A break of at least 5 minutes is required between the push ups and the crunches, and again between the crunches and the 1.5 mile run. All events are either conducted in NJIT's Indoor Athletic area in case of inclement weather or at the NJIT soccer field and track.
