Family Orientation FAQs

Below is a list of common questions about Family Orientation. If you require further assistance, please email New Student Orientation at

Do most parents/guardians attend Family Orientation?

Approximately 1,000 parents attended orientation last year. The choice of whether or not to attend Family Orientation depends on each parent or guardian. Parents and guardians of incoming first-year students are strongly encouraged to attend. This is certainly one of the first steps in showing support for your student.

As a parent/guardian, what will I be doing during Family Orientation?

You will have a chance to gain your own introduction to campus life, as well as the opportunity to meet representatives of various student support departments. You will also learn about the general academic requirements and policies, course placement and NJIT’s advising system. You will also have an opportunity to meet key campus staff members who support first-year students, and become familiar with student services and facilities, food service plans, financial aid, career planning and student activities.

What does the cost cover for Family Orientation?

The cost is $32.64 and covers the expense of breakfast, lunch, closing session, materials, program staff, and the information sessions you will attend as part of Family Orientation. The cost is all-inclusive and non-negotiable. Unfortunately, we do not receive a budget for this program, so it is entirely paid for by the registration fee.

How do I register for Family Orientation?
