The World Health Organization has raised the threat level for COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) to “Very High,” which is one level below pandemic. In addition, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently assesses China,Iran, Italy and South Korea as Warning Level 3 locations for the coronavirus outbreak and recommends avoiding non-essential travel to those locations.
If you are planning to travel to China, Iran, Italy or South Korea or have been/will be in close contact with any individual who has traveled to or will travel to those locations during the last 14 days or at any point in the near future, please fill out the online questionnaire at https://forms.gle/oqL2DnqMfdunKcK29 and await instructions from NJIT's Coronavirus Task Force before returning to campus.
Once the form is submitted and reviewed, NJIT’s coronavirus task force will contact any NJIT community member or campus guest who has completed the form, and will provide direction as to protocol for returning to or coming to campus.
Additionally, please note that the CDC has issued a Level 2 travel alert for Japan and a Watch Level 1 alert for Hong Kong due to the spread of coronavirus in those locations.
NJIT has suspended all scheduled study abroad programs to any international location. Additionally, NJIT has suspended all official university travel to locations with a CDC warning level of 2 or 3 due to coronavirus outbreaks. This presently includes China, Iran, Italy, Japan and South Korea. This list may be modified as the CDC updates its warning levels. Please visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html for a complete listing of the CDC's coronavirus travel advisories.
Students who had planned to participate in an upcoming study abroad trip should contact the Office of Global Initiatives, at global@njit.edu for more information.
If any additional location beyond China, Iran, Italy and South Korea is denoted by the CDC as Warning Level 3 in the future, NJIT will request that campus community members or visitors who travel to such a destination or are in close contact with any individual who has traveled to such a destination, please fill out the online questionnaire at https://forms.gle/oqL2DnqMfdunKcK29 and await instructions from the NJIT Coronavirus Task Force before returning to campus.
Thank you for your assistance as we strive to maintain the wellness of our community members. NJIT is taking these precautions because the health and wellness of students, faculty and staff are the university's top priority. We also recognize that some members of our campus community may have concerns about family or friends in some of the most heavily impacted countries. If you are a student and would like to speak with a counselor or psychologist, please call 973-596-3414 or stop by Campbell Hall, room 205 to make an appointment. Faculty and staff may reach out to Carebridge, NJIT’s employee assistance provider, at (800) 437-0911 or via its website.
