We have reached the end of a successful fall semester, which included in-person instruction, significant research, full residence halls, and a vibrant campus experience for our community. As we approach the end of 2021, we are experiencing an unfortunate change in the regional impact of COVID-19. NJIT will continue to use governmental directives, health metrics, and good judgment in its decision-making. While the NJIT campus remains open, we announce the following mitigation measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 on our campus after the holiday period:
Winter session classes will be held online using either synchronous or asynchronous formats, as reflected in the schedule. Students will receive follow-up instructions from the instructor regarding course modality.
University administrative staff will return to work on January 3, 2022, using remote work, to the extent possible. Vice Presidents will have the discretion to determine if remote work is appropriate and are encouraged to minimize staff on campus through January 7, 2022. Essential personnel are required to report in person for their regular shifts.
All in-person events scheduled from January 3, 2022, through January 17, 2022, should be moved to a virtual format, unless in-person attendance can accommodate strict social distancing. If this is not possible, the events should be postponed to a later date or canceled. Masks are required at all times, unless actively eating or drinking.
All athletic events shall either be held without spectators in attendance or with limited attendance to allow strict social distancing of discrete parties to occur in larger venues. Masks remain required for all non-participants, in compliance with the America East conference, NCAA, and NJIT guidelines.
Campus services, such as the library, will remain open based on published hours, but limited to only those with NJIT identification. All planned tutoring activities will be conducted remotely.
Any additional changes to our operating status for the balance of the semester break or the spring semester will be communicated by January 7, 2022, and it is both our goal and intention to have a fully in-person spring semester.
NJIT continues to urge everyone to get vaccinated, get a booster shot, and wear masks as the best defense against the spread of COVID-19. If you need at-home testing for COVID-19, it can be ordered through the State of New Jersey at no cost to you.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
