A Message from the Pandemic Recovery Steering Committee
June 3, 2020
NJIT Students, Faculty and Staff,
During the past several weeks, the NJIT Pandemic Recovery Steering Committee has been meeting, along with the various subcommittees, to continue our pathway to recovery. We previously communicated the plan framework, and additional details have been developed throughout each of our colleges, schools, and divisions. In our last university-wide communication, we noted the May 18 announcement from the State of New Jersey that provided “a multi-stage approach to execute a responsible and strategic economic restart to put New Jersey on the road back to recovery.”
The NJIT Pandemic Recovery Steering Committee has reviewed our planning to date, previously structured to align with the federal “Opening Up America Again” plan, and has realigned NJIT with the State of New Jersey. This provides NJIT with a more local approach, which will include the input of the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education and the state’s Higher Education Restart Advisory Group, of which NJIT President Bloom is a member.
The infographic below articulates the state plan alignment and will provide the NJIT students, faculty, and staff with a quick reference for understanding of our current recovery status. NJIT is presently in Phase 1 of our recovery.
On June 15, 2020, the State of New Jersey will move to Stage 2 on its Roadmap to Recovery. NJIT plans to follow the State of New Jersey and begin our transition to Phase 2 as well. As mentioned, all community members will receive an update from President Bloom by June 15, 2020 with additional details on:
Instructional delivery, scheduling, and the academic calendar for Fall 2020
Testing and medical surveillance
Distribution of cloth face coverings and personal protective equipment for laboratories
Campus life, student activities, and residence halls
In that communication, we will confirm the start of our transition to Phase 2 and, like the State, we will articulate how that will evolve over a period of weeks.
Please know that all planning is subject to change based on guidance and direction provided by the federal, state (Higher Education Restart Advisory Group), county, and local government.
Stay safe and we look forward to beginning to see more of you on campus soon.
