NJIT Classes Canceled, Thursday-Saturday, March 12-14
March 11, 2020
NJIT Community Members,
In an effort to act responsibly and expeditiously, NJIT announced yesterday several steps designed to align with regional and national efforts to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). That message can be found at https://www.njit.edu/coronavirus.
Tonight, we are announcing the cancelation of classes on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 12-14, in order to afford both students and faculty members additional time to prepare for online learning once classes resume virtually on March 23 and to allow university administrators and staff to further prepare for the significant operational changes that were announced yesterday. To be clear, NJIT remains open and normal services will continue to be provided, including dining services, residence halls, and administrative functions. This is a cancellation of classes only.
NJIT is placing the health and wellness of its community members at the forefront of its decision-making process as we respond to this rapidly evolving and highly complex situation. As such, we must continue to work through many logistical issues, but resolution of those (in some cases) will take time and should not delay actions that have a direct impact on the health and wellness of our community members.
For as long as the COVID-19 outbreak affects NJIT operations, the NJIT COVID-19 Task Force will send a weekly status update to the university community and will post our most current information at https://www.njit.edu/coronavirus. Whenever warranted, there will be more frequent communication with the campus community.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation, and we will continue to base our decisions on the best interests of the university community.
Sincerely,
Fadi P. Deek,
Senior Executive Vice President and Provost at NJIT
