As you know, the COVID-19 Task Force has been hard at work evaluating the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on NJIT and providing guidance to Senior Leadership for implementation. The health crisis we are experiencing is unprecedented in the United States, and we are on the front lines of protecting the health and welfare of our NJIT community. The choice to move to virtual learning was not an easy one to make, but it was done in the best interest of our students, faculty, and staff.
In an effort to further social distancing, known to be an effective tactic in slowing the progression of a pandemic, we will now implement the next phase of our plans. Senior Staff and key unit managers were asked to formulate their continuity of operations plans. These plans have been reviewed by the COVID-19 Task Force to ensure the operation of the university will be maintained while reducing the density of employees physically present on the NJIT campus. Personnel essential to the campus operation are expected, based on the continuity of operations plans in their areas, to be physically present to perform functions that cannot be performed remotely. Our plans address these essential tasks and provide the framework for continued operations. NJIT will enact these continuity of operations plans on Monday, March 16, 2020. If individuals have questions regarding how this implementation affects them, they should contact their direct supervisor for clarification.
We must remain a viable and functioning university during this period of uncertainty. Senior leaders will assess the efficacy of their plans in maintaining operations on a weekly basis and will make changes as circumstances arise. Feedback should be shared among university units and organizations so any encountered roadblocks are addressed. Again, our primary goal is to ensure the academic mission of NJIT, today and into the future, is supported, while ensuring the health and welfare of our community.
The COVID-19 Task Force and Senior Leadership will continue to monitor, assess, and be proactive as the circumstances of this pandemic evolve. Thank you for your efforts to date and your continuing dedication to NJIT.
