The State of New Jersey has announced the launch of COVID Alert NJ, our state’s new exposure notification app. We would like to encourage all students, faculty, and staff to download and use COVID Alert NJ, which is available for free via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. COVID Alert NJ is a secure mobile phone app that can anonymously alert users if they have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. It also provides users with up-to-date information on New Jersey reopening news, key COVID-19 metrics, and a user-friendly symptom tracking tool. This app offers users several benefits, including:
Being alerted if you have been in close contact with another app user who has tested positive for COVID-19, even if that person is a stranger;
Tracking symptoms
Being able to anonymously warn other app users you were in close contact with if you test positive for COVID-19. This even applies to people you do not know or remember being in close contact with (e.g., during bus/train ride, in public places)
Monitoring the latest information and statistics related to the COVID-19 pandemic
Easily reaching Department of Health contact tracers and connecting with support services (This feature will be included post-launch).
Downloading and using this app also will enhance NJIT's contact-tracing efforts and support our efforts to keep our campus community healthy and safe.
Thank you and stay well.
