Talent Search

Talent Search is a federally funded Program that is housed on the New Jersey Institute Of Technology Campus. It is a Pre-College Program that is designed to encourage youths to take an active interest in developing and pursuing academic, career, and personal goals. We provide students with the necessary skills and motivation needed to achieve academic success, graduate from middle and high school, and eventually enter college, trade school, or some form of post secondary training.

Middle school students work to prepare for high school and high school students work to prepare for college or a career of their choice. It is the intent of the program to have the student enroll in Talent Search as a 6th grader and continue on through our program until high school graduation. Talent Search also provides services to students who are interested in obtaining a G.E.D., and assists students and young adults with reentering high school or college. Through the combined efforts of our Talent Search staff, Newark Public Schools, parents, and students, our program participants will get an important head start on learning about college and career opportunities.

Our program services are offered to middle school students between the 6th and 8th grade, and high school students between the 9th and 12th grade. Young adults no older than 27 years of age are also eligible for our services. Program participants are primarily students who fall under the low income guidelines, and are first generation college students (meaning their parents did not graduate from a 4 year college). Completion of an application packet is also necessary.
