Fall 2017 Move-In

Moving into your on-campus residence hall room, suite, or apartment is an exciting yet hectic time for new and returning students alike. Residence Life staff will do our very best to make the move-in process as easy and simple as possible in order to help you get settled into your new home away from home.  Please review the information and resources below before you arrive to campus. We look forward seeing you at your new home!

CHECKING IN

To check-in to your room, go to the building that you have been assigned, following opening dates published by Residence Life.  Fall 2017 dates and check-in times are as follows: 

Transfer, Graduate & Continuing students
(Cypress, Honors, Laurel, Oak, Redwood, & Greek Village):

Sunday, August 27, 2017 – Monday, September 4, 2017 (Labor Day)

Check-in Hours: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. & 8 p.m. -10 p.m.

First Year Students in Cypress & Redwood Halls
Wednesday, August 30, 2017​

Check-in Hours: 

Floors 6, 7, & 8          10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Floors 4 & 5               12 p.m. - 2 p.m.
Floors 2 & 3               2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Honors Hall

Last names from A-M  10 a.m. - 12 p.m. 
Last names from N-Z   12 p.m. -2 p.m. 

Residents must have a valid ID card to check into any building and must present it to the residence life staff. At check-in, you will receive a room key or combination, a mailbox key and NJIT ID (if you are a new student). You will also sign a room inventory form. This inventory form is a checklist regarding the condition of the room upon check-in and an accounting of the room furnishings. If you find any discrepancies with the room inventory, you must document and return it to your RA within 48 hours of your check-in.

LATE ARRIVALS
If you have not checked into your room within 48 hours your scheduled check-in date, you will forfeit your room assignment and be charged the cancellation fee as indicated in the terms and conditions of the housing application and contract for fall 2017 through spring 2018.  If you plan to arrive late, please contact our office so we can make note.

MEAL PLANS
Student meal plans will be activated for use on Wednesday, August 30th for lunch.  Students are allowed to change their meal plan one time until 9/15/17. To make a change, click here.

CLASSES
Classes begin on Tuesday, September 5th 

PROGRAMMING

During your first week in residence, we invite you to engage in our Welcome Week programming   

Wednesday, August 30th - Welcome to the Neighborhood event
Central King Building Plaza - 1pm-4pm
Nearly 75 NJIT departments, organizations, and local vendors will be present in a information and involvement fair.  Stop by the plaza to meet key groups that promote campus and regional involvement. 

Wednesday, August 30th - Family BBQ
Honors Green (between Honors Hall and the Greek Village) - 4pm-6pm
Before saying goodbye to your student(s) stop by the Honors Green for a BBQ, free for families and students without meal plans.  Capture this important day in a family photo and meet NJIT faculty and staff. 

Wednesday, August 30th - Laser Tag with the Residence Hall Association (RHA)
Honors Green - 8pm
Join RHA in a spirited game of laser tag. Bring your roommate or suitemates for some healthy competition! 

Saturday, September 2nd - 4th - Residence Life in-hall Welcome events
Stop by all five residential areas for a series of free programs for all resident students.  Click on the flyer below for more information!
