Breaking the Silence: Recognizing, Reporting & Preventing Sexual Assault on Campus

Preventing and responding to campus sexual misconduct has dominated the conversation of both college professionals and students. It is imperative that we break the silence surrounding this topic. Educating our students to recognize, report, and prevent incidents of sexual misconduct helps to make our campus communities safer for students to live and learn. New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is hosting its first Title IX Regional Student Summit on April 13, 2017 to engage both students and professionals in serious dialogue and training on one of the most important issues college students are facing today.

We are pleased to announce that Ms. Rhasheda Douglas, Esq. a former attorney for the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, will deliver our keynote address.

The conference also brings together the knowledge of Title IX practitioners to inform students of their rights under Title IX and provide a platform for professionals to network, attend workshops and participate in a “round table” designed to enhance Title IX programming on their own campuses.

The Title IX Student Summit will offer the following three Workshop tracks:

Track 1: Title IX Training Certificate (for student leaders seeking a certificate of completion)

Track 1 requires attendance at the following intensive training workshops:

  • Intensive Title IX Training for Student Leaders
  • Bystander Intervention
  • Plus one additional workshop during session C

Track 2- General Track (for students who want to learn more about Title IX)

Track 2 provides students the opportunity to attend three workshops of their choice from sessions A, B, and C.

Track 3- Professional (higher education professionals only)

The workshops provided in this track will focus on the future of Title IX, conducting Title IX investigations, and best practices for implementing Title IX on college campuses
