Mid-Autumn Festival & Diwali Celebration

NJIT faculty, staff, & students enjoy an afternoon learning & celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival & Diwali Celebration. We are appreciative of NJIT student, Tejen Thakkar, for volunteering his time to sing two beautiful songs celebrating Diwali, and for our two keynote speakers, Andrew Christ & Marybeth Boger for providing thoughtful insights & feedback for AAPI ERG. Thank you to all of our volunteers & organizers & attendees who made this event happen!
Raul Sunico: An Afternoon of Masterful Music

Muay Thai/Kickboxing Sessions lead by Sener

Location: Racquetball Room at Fleisher Athletic center
AAPI members joined a fun and engaging Muay Thai/Kickboxing session led by Sener, learning fundamental techniques, practicing pad drills, and even trying controlled sparring. The session ended with stretching and strength exercises, leaving everyone energized and excited for more!.
Faculty Fridays Collaboration with AAPI ERG

NJIT faculty, lecturers, and AAPI ERG members gathered for Faculty Fridays, a networking event co-sponsored by the Office of Faculty Affairs. Panelists shared their experiences navigating academia as Asian professionals, offering valuable insights on career growth and mentorship. The session featured an engaging Q&A, where panelists addressed audience questions about academic challenges and professional development. The event fostered meaningful connections and reinforced a supportive academic community at NJIT.
Lunar New Year Celebration

This Lunar New Year Celebration was a fantastic gathering filled with cultural sharing, engaging activities, and delicious treats. Attendees had the opportunity to learn how colleagues from various AAPI cultures celebrate the New Year. The networking bingo was a great success, bringing people together in a fun and interactive way—with exciting prizes! We also enjoyed a variety of delicious and sweet snacks, generously shared by participants.
AAPI ERG

Members of the AAPI group got together to play racquetball, enjoying the fast-paced games and working up a sweat. Between matches, we took breaks to relax, chat, and meet new people. It was a great mix of fun, fitness, and getting to know each other better.
AAPI ERG - Diwali

The AAPI group celebrated Diwali together, learning about the traditions and meaning behind the Festival of Lights. The event was a chance to connect and reconnect with colleagues, surrounded by simple and bright Diwali decorations. Some members brought special treats to share, making the gathering warm and welcoming for everyone.
AAPI Meet and Greet

We had a wonderful gathering on Oct. 2nd where we celebrated the start of the new academic year and warmly welcomed our new AAPI faculty and staff members. During our discussions, we shared ideas for the 2024-2025 events and programs and had meaningful conversations about the future of NJIT’s AAPI-ERG. Many expressed interest in getting involved, and we’re excited to see how everyone’s contributions will help shape our initiatives moving forward.
AAPI ERG - Wellness Event

Location: Center for Peer Wellness Coaching
AAPI group members joined the wellness coaching event at the Center for Peer Wellness Coaching. Participants explored breathing techniques and learned tips to begin a meditation practice. Additionally, we learned how to create a workout. It was a great refreshment after a busy term and a much-needed break for our bodies.
AAPI ERG - Spring Potluck

On May 1st, a potluck lunch was organized at Eberhardt 112 to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month. Community members brought their favorite dishes, creating a delightful array of diverse cuisines. It was a wonderful opportunity for people to enjoy food from various cultures while also fostering better connections among everyone.
Tai - Chi Session

Location: Racquetball Court
Lingfeng Rao led an energizing Tai Chi session, guiding participants through warm-ups, Qi Gong, Taiji basic moves, Taiji sword basics, and Taiji Kung Fu Fan routines, etc. Attendees enjoyed a fun lunchtime exercise while learning and practicing these ancient arts, followed by a relaxing cool-down.

AAPI ERG Excel Workshop

In this informative session on pivot tables, Tracy Ng shared valuable tips and tricks, helping attendees reach and utilize the full potential of this powerful tool. Participants dove deep into the world of pivot tables, gaining insights and practical skills.
Coffee & Conversation on Managing Difficult Conversations on Culture

In this engaging and insightful session, Dr. Edmondson leveraged his expertise in public speaking to guide participants through meaningful topics. Attendees evaluated their assumptions and thoughts, gained understanding of self-awareness, assessed their comfort levels with discomfort, and learned to respond with intention and grace.
