NJIT’s reputation among New Jersey residents has improved significantly in the last three years, with high-quality academic programs and top-notch professors rated among the most important features of an ideal university, according to the results of a branding survey conducted from May 12-19 by the Global Strategy Group.
Nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of the 600 survey respondents rated NJIT favorably, up from 49 percent in 2001. A good public reputation was the most agreed-upon perception of NJIT, with 73 percent of respondents stating that this phrase fits NJIT at least somewhat well, up from 61 percent three years ago.
Among those who have heard of NJIT, 67 percent agreed that the university has a quality academic program, up from 57 percent in 2001.
What’s in a name? The study found that New Jersey residents are more familiar with the name “New Jersey Institute of Technology” than with the initials “NJIT”.
The university’s development of technologies to combat bioterrorism, invent “smart gun” technology and clean up hazardous waste are messages that New Jerseyans found very appealing.
