The NJIT women's cross country team took the team championship of its own Highlander Invitational on Sunday in Branch Brook Park. Liz Mayo was the top individual finisher for NJIT, placing seventh and covering the 5-kilometer course in a school-record 21:08. >>

CSLA Recognizes Professors, Alumni, Staff and Students at Annual Awards Luncheon More than 100 people recently gathered at an annual awards luncheon to honor the exceptional work and commitment of more than a dozen individuals associated with the College of Science and Liberal Arts at NJIT. Professors who received awards included: Ken K. Chin, PhD, professor, in the department of physics; John Bechtold, PhD, an associate professor in the department of mathematical sciences; and James Lipuma, PhD, a special lecturer in the humanities department. Alumni awards were presented to Jaime Mosquera, who graduated in 1998 with a degree in actuarial science; and Daniel Bubb, PhD, one of the very first doctoral graduates of the department of physics. Leslie Williams, an administrative staff member of the physics department, received an award for her help assisting professors in that department obtain and manage more than $2 million in annual funds. Graduate students who received awards included Christina Ambrosio, a doctoral student in mathematical sciences; Yubing Wang, a doctoral student studying chemistry; and Aiquin Jiang, a doctoral student studying physics. Undergraduate student awards were presented to Kunj Patel, Hinna Chaudhry, Gerardo Giordano, and George Roa. Student Senate Recognizes Biomedical Engineering Professor Rick Foulds, PhD, professor in the department of biomedical engineering, received the annual Faculty Recognition award from the NJIT Undergraduate Senate. NJSOA Professor Quoted in NAHB Online Publication Deane M. Evans, FAIA, director of the Center for Architecture and Building Science Research at NJIT, was quoted in “Good Design: The Best Kept Secret in Community Development,” a recent report published in Nation's Building News Online, the online newspaper of the National Association of Home Builders. Mechanical Engineering Professor Receives Award from ICT and IPS Mirko Schoenitz, PhD, assistant research professor in the department of mechanical engineering, has been awarded travel and registration expenses by the Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT) and the International Pyrotechnics Society (IPS) to present a paper in Germany. >>

NJIT Professor Designated As Fulbright Scholar Christopher Funkhouser, PhD, assistant professor, department of humanities, has been designated as a Fulbright Scholar for teaching and research in Malaysia in 2006. Dr. Funkhouser, a specialist in digital poetry and literature, will be working at Multimedia University in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, next spring. His project, dealing with multimedia database communication, involves half-time lecturing and half-time research at the University. His proposal was selected by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and was endorsed by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars.  Professors Recognized for Article in IEEE Publication Nancy W. Coppola, associate professor of humanities, has won the Rudolph J. Joenk Jr. Award for best article published in IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication for 2004. The article, "Swift Trust in Virtual Teams," was written with  Roxanne Hiltz, PhD, distinguished professor of information systems, and Naomi Rotter, PhD, professor of management. The Joenk Award winner is invited to present a paper at the IEEE International Professional Communication Conference in Limerick, Ireland, in July 2005.  NCE Staff Recognized at Annual Awards Banquet Brenda Walker and Geny Moreno, Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, were recognized for their service and dedication to Newark College of Engineering (NCE) at the school's annual Awards Banquet on April 8, 2005 at the Newark Airport Marriott Hotel. Ms. Walker received the NCE Outstanding Staff Award and Ms. Moreno was presented with the NCE Excellence in Advising Award. SPE Student Chapter Receives Outstanding Student Organization Award The Society of Plastics Engineers student chapter was presented with the Outstanding Student Organization Award at the NCE Awards Banquet on April 8, 2005 at the Newark Airport Marriott Hotel.  Six Highlanders Named Arthur Ashe Sports Scholars Six NJIT student-athletes were named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars in the most recent issue of Black Issues In Higher Education magazine. Each awardee must have had a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20, been an active member of an intercollegiate athletics team in 2004-05, and have demonstrated a record of service to his/her university or community. They are: Jennifer Dorn, cross-country; Elizabeth Mayo, cross-country; Mario Douglas, soccer;  Sita Kulkarni, volleyball; Deepti Sanjai, fencing;  and Donelle Small, swimming. NCE 70th Reunion Website Wins Admissions Advertising Award The Newark College of Engineers 70th Reunion Website received an honorable mention in the twentieth annual Admissions Advertising Awards sponsored by Admissions Marketing Report.  >>
NJIT senior Elizabeth Mayo has been named a USTCA-NCAA Division II All-Academic Athlete by the United States Cross-Country Coaches Association. Additionally, her NJIT women's cross-country team received that body's All-Academic Team designation. >>
