CDS, under the auspices of Community and Public Service, recently began a new collaboration with Newark Public Schools (NPS) to launch the College Tutors Partnership Program.  This new initiative has given both NJIT and NPS the opportunity to mutually combine resources to help prepare NPS 11th and 12th graders for the New Jersey High School Proficiency Assessment Exam (HSPA).  Tutors are employed for 10 to 12 hours per week in the after-school and Saturday sessions at Central, Eastside, and Weequahic High Schools.  They assist classroom teachers with providing instruction in Language Arts and Math competencies for over 350 NPS students.
