Cooperative Education Program

Program Description

The Co-op Program administered through NJIT's Division of Career Development Services can boost an organization's productivity and strengthen recruiting efforts. Staff assists students in identifying career interests and selecting appropriate prospective co-op work assignments. NJIT faculty members review the academic credentials of students to find the best match between students and organizations. Students are available full- or part-time year round.

Program Features

  • An established, university wide, academically integrated program involving students and faculty advisors from every major and degree program;

  • A full time Career Development Services staff dedicated to assisting students and employers in meeting their objectives

  • A centralized database of available students and employer work assignments

  • Review and referral of student resumes to prospective employers

  • Interview scheduling and coordination

  • Work experience performance management.

Schedules

  • Co-op work schedules are available during the academic year and the summer.

  • Co-op students from engineering and engineering technology majors work on full time schedules of up to 1 year.

  • Students from all other majors are eligible to participate in either full or part time schedules of up to 1 year.

Co-op Work Cycles:

  • January through May

  • May through August

  • June, July, or August through December

Participation Requirements

Employers

  • Submission of a job description

  • Designation of an immediate supervisor

  • Providing of a safe work environment

  • Providing compensation to each student

  • Providing a work environment conducive to learning

  • Providing feedback on student's performance

  • Participate in on-site visit by faculty co-op advisor
