The NJIT Section of Society of Women Engineers (SWE) participated in the SWE Annual Conference (WE13) from Oct. 24-26 in Baltimore, MD.  The SWE executive board members and faculty advisor made a strong presence at the conference by organizing sessions, serving as session monitors and judges and participating as speakers in workshops and panels.  >>
The American Geophysical Union (AGU) has named NJIT Distinguished Professor Philip R. Goode, of Westfield, a 2013 Fellow for his seminal contributions to solar physics and to the development of a revolutionary ground-based solar telescope facility.  >>

Richard Garber, AIA, associate professor in NJIT's College of Architecture and Design, will participate in a roundtable discussion on June 8 on the intersection of digital and information technologies and the urban environment. >>

A team comprised of New Jersey School of Architecture alumni Justin Foster '08, Lauren Page '08, and Phil Kuehne '07 of the design collective KIT won first place in the New York Architecture League's design charette competition. Their winning design, which features hundreds of hula hoops forming a connected canopy, will be part of a temporary summer installation in the backyard of the SUPERFRONT art gallery to host events for New York City Explorers, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit group.   >>

NJIT's 2009 Commencement Ceremony will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the Prudential Center, Newark from 9 a.m.-noon. During the ceremony, more than 2,000 honorary doctoral degrees and earned doctoral, master's, and bachelor's degrees will be conferred on the Class of 2009. >>

NJIT will hold its annual black-tie benefit dinner Celebration, on Nov. 14, 2008, at Pleasantdale Chateau, West Orange. Former New Jersey Governor and President of the New Jersey State Senate, the Hon. Richard J. Codey, will serve as the special guest master of ceremonies. The world-renowned Duprees, who started their 1960s musical careers in Jersey City with hits like “You Belong to Me,” will provide entertainment. >>
NJIT rising sophomore men's basketball guard Jheryl Wilson was named a Star-Ledger College Summer League All-Star for his play this summer in the top college summer league in New Jersey. The Star-Ledger College Summer League, an NCAA-sanctioned summer league, brings together men's college players from all levels to compete in regular competition in New Brunswick, NJ. >>

NJIT's Bruce Bukiet, the World Series Forecaster, is once again banging away on his keyboard, this time to name winners of Major League Baseball's Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Cy Young awards for the 2007 season. >>
"There is no dominant team in this year's baseball playoffs, at least in the first round," said Bruce Bukiet, associate professor of mathematical sciences at NJIT concerning the Major League Baseball Division series. According to Bukiet's mathematical model, the Cubs have a 62 percent chance of advancing to the National League Championship Series, while the Red Sox have a 60 percent chance of advancing to the American League Championship Series. >>

The New York Yankees have better than a 3 in 4 chance of defeating the Detroit Tigers in their best of 5 series beginning tonight, said Bruce Bukiet, PhD, associate professor in the department of mathematical sciences at NJIT. In the other American League match-up, Bukiet said that the Minnesota Twins have a 71 percent chance of defeating the Oakland A's. >>
