Donald H. Sebastian, PhD, senior vice president for research and development at NJIT, has been named Public Sector Advocate of the Year by the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCC). Sebastian will receive the award on Nov. 9 at the SHCC's Corporate Awards Luncheon at the Hilton Hotel and Executive Meeting Center in Hasbrouck Heights.  >>

Altenkirch served as the honorary chairperson of the Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce Foundation of Essex County Ninth Annual Scholarship and Awards Gala Dinner yesterday in the Campus Center Atrium. The Foundation recognizes business, governmental, corporate and individual efforts and accomplishments that positively impact Latino/Hispanic businesses and the Latino/Hispanic community in Essex County. Shown at left are Dr. Altenkirch, Dr. Niathan Allen of Summit Developers, and Robert P. Marasco, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award. >>

NJ Governor Jon S. Corzine delivered the keynote speech today at the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey's 17th Annual Convention Expo & Career Fair at NJIT. The governor lauded NJIT's role in contributing to the state's economic development through its business incubator and other programs. Henry Ross, NJIT Chief of Staff, provided welcoming remarks. “Like the statewide Hispanic Chamber, NJIT is an institution where the rubber hits the road when it comes to economic development,” Ross said. “We're an institution committed to practical results—and to real-world business models.”   >>

NJIT Development Director Honored by North Essex Chamber of Commerce   Billy McDermott, director of development for NJIT's School of Management, received the President's Award at the North Essex Chamber of Commerce Leadership Recognition Banquet on May 16, 2007. Three Highlanders Receive Independent Baseball Academic Honors NJIT baseball athletes Austin DeRogatis, Rob Pietrocola and PJ Saporito were named to the NCAA Division I Independent All-Academic team for 2007. The NCAA Division I Academic All-Independent team was selected by sports information directors at member institutions. Nominations from each school were accepted for student-athletes who had a least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, had reached at least a sophomore academic standing and were a starter or key reserve for their respective program. >>

Carlos Rivera, an adjunct professor in NJIT's School of Management, will speak at the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey's 15th Annual Convention, Expo and Career Fair on Oct. 14 at the Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott. Admission is free. >>
Twelve tips on successful blogging were among the highlights of a day-long business and networking event held yesterday at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).     The event, aimed at encouraging men and women with technological expertise to start their own companies, was organized by NJIT's School of Management, Office of Technology Development, Enterprise Development Center and the North Essex Chamber of Commerce.   >>

Five French-based students graduating from the School of Management's “sister school” in Saint-Etienne traveled overseas to receive their MBA degrees in person at the university's commencement ceremony on May 26, 2004. The School of Management at NJIT offers a European MBA in partnership with Ecole Superieure de Commerce (ESC) a Saint-Etienne, France. Classes are given on-site and are taught by instructors from ESC and NJIT. >>
