New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is now accepting applications for its 2010 Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) program.  A collaboration of The Engineering Research Center for Structured Organic Particulate Systems (ERC-SOPS) (http://www.ercforsops.org) and the Center for Pre-College Programs (CPCP) at NJIT, the National Science Foundation funded program will engage teams of high school teachers in a summer research program, where they will be a contributing part of a research group,  as they acquire the skills and knowledge of research and the subject of pharmaceutical engineering that they can incorporate into their teaching practice.

Participants accepted to the program will…

• Participate in a 6-week summer research experience from June 28 – August 5, 2010.
• Be part of a research group, with graduate students and faculty, engaged in studies of pharmaceutical particulate and composite systems.
• Develop and enhance skills and knowledge needed for scientific and engineering investigations.
• Collaborate on the development of standards-based lessons and modules that can be integrated into their curriculum.
• Receive a modest budget for supplies to support the implementation of the curriculum materials in their classroom.

Stipend: $6,000 - contingent upon full participation in all activities, including one-day spring and fall workshops and 6-weeks during the summer of 2010.

Eligibility: The RET program is designed for high school science, technology, or pre-engineering teachers. Applications must be from a team of two teachers from a school.
