Upward Bound

The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. The program provides fundamental support and opportunities for participants to succeed in pre-college courses and ultimately succeed in higher-educational pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families, first-generation aspiring college students, and first-generation military veterans preparing to enter postsecondary education.

Academic Program

The academic program takes place from September to May. Students take classes in English, math (pre-calculus, calculus, geometry, and algebra), physics, chemistry, and computers and receive counseling. Classes are held on Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm at the NJIT Campus. Students also receive lunch weekly and a monthly stipend. Various activities and field trips are scheduled throughout the academic year. Tutoring and personal activities are also available during the week.

Summer Program

The summer program takes place in July and August, Monday through Friday. During this period, students are provided with an intensive academic program consisting of courses in mathematics, statistics, English, computer science, physics, architecture, space science, rockets, French, Spanish, and psychology as well as counseling. Furthermore, students participate in educational field trips, workshops, and career seminars. Classes are taught by NJIT faculty members and local teachers.
