New Overnight Parking Policy for Fall '07
Only resident students, faculty, staff and NJIT Greek row residents will be permitted to park overnight on campus.
  1. For purposes of definition, “overnight” will be considered the time between 2:00 am and 5:00 am, Monday-Friday.
  2. There will be a $25 fine imposed on those who park overnight without authorization.
  3. Stickers to be placed on hang tags will be issued to resident students by the Office of Residence Life and to resident Greeks by the Office of Greek Life.
  4. Faculty and staff hang tags will not require stickers as they are exempt.
  5. Overnight guests of resident students will be issued a one night permit when they apply for an overnight pass.
  6. Overnight passes will also be issued to students who can demonstrate the need to stay through the night for academic purposes or for university business.

Exemptions:

Note: Parking enforcement at NJIT will begin in week three of the Fall ’07 semester. Normal parking hang tag enforcement starts 9/11/07. Overnight parking permit enforcement will begin 9/18/07

As in the past, guests of resident students will e issued a one-night permit through the Office of Public Safety.

At the School of Architecture, all students enrolled in studio courses  will be granted up to six passes for overnight parking per semester. Passes will be issued, as needed, from the School of Architecture office from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday-Friday. No passes will be issued prior to September 7th.

How to obtain an exemption: In general, exemptions will be granted for academic purposes and university business. Visit the Parking web site or Dean of Students web site and complete the “Overnight Parking Exemption Form” Please note that exemptions may be granted but may not necessarily result in a blanket waiver of the overnight parking rule. Forms will be available for submission on September 6th.

Complete the form and submit it to the following location based upon your reason for seeking an exemption:

  • Submit to the Dean of Students Office for on-campus employment, laboratory work, student organizations, non-architecture academic exemptions and any other reasons.
  • Submit to the Director of Greek Life if you live on Greek row.

We expect to respond to each request within 72 hours. Any questions or concerns regarding exemptions should be directed to the Dean of Students Office, 973.596.3470.

All exemption decisions are final. There is no process for appeal.

Once again:  Normal parking hang tag enforcement starts 9/11/07.  Overnight parking permit enforcement will begin 9/18/07.
