Connections Miniversity FAQ's
What is Connections Miniversity?
Connections Miniversity (CMV) is a mandatory interactive overnight orientation program for new NJIT undergraduate students. During the program, you will meet current NJIT students, faculty and staff to help you understand the skills necessary to be successful at the university - both academic and social. You will be given the opportunity to meet with your advisor to understand the expectations of NJIT and receive guidance on academic planning. You will learn about innovative research and programs, understand First Year Students course scheduling, and obtain professional advising on majors, minors, and fields of study.
Do I have to attend Connections Miniversity?
Connections Minversity is mandatory for all incoming NJIT First Year Students. If you do not attend, you will not be eligible to register for fall semester classes.
How long is Connections Miniversity?
Connections Miniversity (CMV) is a two-day overnight experience. Check-in begins at 9:00 am on Day 1 of your specified CMV session date. Dismissal is between 5:00 pm - 5:30 pm on Day 2. Do not make plans on Day 2 which will prevent you from staying until 5:00 pm.
When is Connections Miniversity?
For Summer 2012, CMV will be held during the month of June and July; for late admits, out of state, and international students we offer a session immediately before classes start for the fall. Once you have registered for CMV, you will receive an e-mail with your assigned session date. Efforts will be made to accommodate requests for specific dates, but we can not guarantee that your requested session will be available.
Where do I stay when I am at Connections Miniversity?
Both residential and commuter students will stay on-campus during the entire Connections Miniversity program. When you attend CMV you will be staying in one of NJIT’s residence halls. For more information about NJIT's residence halls and their policies, please visit the Residence Life website. Only under special circumstances will students be allowed to stay off-campus during the two-day session; permission is only given by the Assistant Director for First Year Programs prior to the start of the program.
How do I register for Connections Miniversity?
Only students who have paid their deposits to the Admissions Office will be invited to register for Connections Miniversity. If you have taken your placement tests and are NOT part of the EOP program, contact our office by email at NJITCMV@gmail.com or by phone, 973-596-5438. Please wait one week from your placement tests date before contacting the CMV office.
What if I have not received information regarding CMV in the mail or by email?
Please contact the CMV office by email at NJITCMV@gmail.com or by phone, 973-596-5438.
Can I leave early or arrive late to Connections Miniversity?
It is the responsibility of the students attending CMV to make arrangements to attend the entire program; excuses such as 'I have work' or 'I have an appointment' will not be accepted and you might have to attend a second session of the CMV program. We will give attendance notices to all students attending our program at the end of the second day; if your high school requires advance notice, you can e-mail our office with your request.
We also plan for all students to stay overnight in our residence halls; prior arrangements must be made with the Center for First Year Students before allowing students to leave at the end of Day 1 - please note that all arrangements are made with the approval of the Interim Assistant Dean of First Year Students.
Attendance issues will be handled on a case by case basis at the discretion of the Interim Assistant Dean of First Year Students and the Assistant Director for First Year Programs; please contact our office prior to the start of your program in order to receive permission to leave early or arrive late.
What if I have an issue with my assigned Connections Miniversity session date?
We understand that summer plans can change. We will work with you to make sure that you can attend one of our summer sessions (please notify us as soon as possible if you cannot attend your assigned session). If you do not attend your assigned session, we will assign you to the next available date. Efforts will be made to accommodate requests for specific dates, but given the volume of students who must attend the CMV program we can not guarantee that your requested session will be available. If you have any additional questions or concerns please contact the CMV office at NJITCMV@gmail.com.
