High school science teachers from throughout New Jersey recently attended NJIT’s third annual materials science camp to learn better approaches for teaching materials science. The one-week program was a partnership among NJIT’s College of Science and Liberal Arts (CSLA), the Metro NY/NJ Chapter of the American Society of Materials (ASM) and the ASM Education Foundation. “This ASM camp has provided a range of new activities to our teaching repertoire that will enable our students to experience the energy, excitement, and infectious joy of science,” commented one participant at the close. Program organizers included Edgardo Farinas, chair, department of chemistry and environmental science; Roumiana Petrova, department undergraduate student advisor; CSLA Associate Dean Bruce Bukiet, associate professor; and Sylvana Brito, department administrator. Support for this professional development initiative was provided by Roche.
