NJIT Architecture Alumni to Present Designs at NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness Event

Alex Guimaraes '14 and Sean Olsen '14, both recent graduates from NJIT’s College of Architecture and Design, have been selected to participate in the 2014 Planning Summit of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. Guimaraes and Olsen will present their design work at the event which is to be held on June 25, 2014 at the Middlesex County Fire Academy. Their projects were completed as part of the Trespa Building Envelope Design Studio’s design-research program focused on the creation of resilient design solutions for coastal communities in New Jersey.

Taught by NJIT Assistant Professor Matt Burgermaster, in collaboration with Shawn Torbert, from Trespa North America, an international leader and innovator in ventilated cladding systems, this university-industry collaboration explored storm-resilient applications for pre-engineered, pre-fabricated building systems as alternatives to traditional building typologies and products being used in the post-Sandy marketplace in New Jersey.
