On Aug. 5, NJIT will be hosting the Dr. Harold Olmstead Real World Projects Showcase in the Campus Center Atrium from 1:00 – 5 p.m. The showcase will host four College of Computing Sciences (CCS) Capstone Groups and nine Real World Connections (RWC) tracks that will present real solutions to industrial problems and sponsored projects.
During this summer’s CCS Capstone, a handful of college students will be presenting four industrial projects for Pop Group, What Are Minds For, St. Barnabas Medical Center and A+ Consulting. The variety of projects this year emphasizes on solving the technological needs of small businesses and integrating customized software for individual departments.
These college students have spent their summer working with sponsors and going through the steps of soliciting requirements to designing their projects and executing their ideas. Throughout the class they have received real-world experience and will be presenting their final solutions to both judges and companies.
The other groups presenting their projects include over 50 high school students in nine tracks from the RWC program. High school students from Orange Country, Union, Elizabeth, and other places in New Jersey have spent a month working on industry projects that boosts motivation and drives middle and high school students to take charge of the program.
The projects range from a variety of different academic topics that include architecture, forensics, literature, graphics design and more. By adapting to the individual students’ needs, each RWC track provides a different unique experience that bridges relationships and enhances personal growth that is not seen in traditional teaching models.
Furthermore these projects are designed with an innovative output as high school students create more than solutions but strive to provide strong results with both a professional and personal connection to their projects. Students in the program also gain experience in public speaking, presentation, and social skills in RWC’s open-teaching styled environment.
