Subject: Bob Avery to take new position at Roger Williams
I wanted to let you know that Bob Avery, Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary to the Board of Trustees, has accepted the position of Vice President and General Counsel at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. Bob's last day at NJIT will be Friday, June 27.
Bob has been with NJIT for over 13 ½ years. He became University Counsel in 1991 and General Counsel in 1993, creating the Office of Legal and Employment Affairs (OLEA) and moving NJIT's legal resources in-house to improve efficiency and effectiveness of legal services. In 1995 and 1996 he drafted NJIT's current enabling legislation and was instrumental in its implementation. In 1995, responsibility for employee training and development was moved from Human Resources to OLEA, and in 1997, Human Resources, with the exception of benefits, was moved into the restructured Office of General Counsel now overseeing the Office of Legal and Employment Affairs and the Department of Human Resources.
In 2002, Bob assumed his current position of Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary to the Board of Trustees. Bob counts among his achievements creating a culture of partnership with our labor units and conceiving and building OLEA as part of a plan to provide legal services "better and cheaper" than anyone else as those having the most impact on NJIT during his tenure.
Bob will be missed. Please join me in congratulating him and wishing him well in his new endeavor.
