First Moodle Users Group Meeting and Briefing of 2011-12 Academic Year Our Moodle User Group (MUG) meetings are a time for Moodle instructors to discuss strategies that have worked well, find out what our colleagues are doing, ask questions and let the support staff  know what features and tools you would like to see.  We will also take this opportunity to give you a sneak peak of  Moodle 2.0.  If you can’t make this MUG we would love to see you at one of our other meet-ups this fall:

Tuesday, September 27th Envisioning the Next Gen of NJIT Capstone Programs (Part One – NJIT Capstone Histories and Foundation for Future) This will be a panel discussion where all NJIT capstone program leaders will explain their capstone programs and processes, the expected learning outcomes of their programs, the challenges, and the best practices.  The panelists will showcase samples of the capstone products. Finally, the panel and the audience will discuss next steps toward an envisioned next generation of NJIT Capstone. The Next Gen of Capstone will be a program that highlights and showcases the nuances that accentuate the individual Capstone entities while be framed as the NJIT Capstone program.

Expected Outcomes: A white paper will be produced and used as a framework for a proof of concept founded on the current NJIT Capstone programs and the premises for the envisioned Next Gen NJIT Capstone Program. Additionally, a taskforce will be formed to develop the Next Gen NJIT Capstone guidelines, develop the governing structure, plan the implementation of the Next Gen NJIT Capstone Framework and plan the Part Two Workshop.

Use of technologies in teaching at NJIT – what is available, getting started, how it is used and who to contact for support.  This workshop will also cover ideas for using technology to help make the most efficient use of the instructor and students’ time both in and out of the classroom.

Envisioning the Next Gen of the NJIT Capstone Program (Part Two – The Future)

This workshop will continue the conversation about foundation and best practices of the current Capstone programs. There will be a presentation of the: 1) proposed future governance and branding of the NJIT Capstone Program; a discussion about Capstone commercialization opportunities; diverse industry projects; cross department and school Capstone projects; and the success factors and indicators (This first point will likely be covered between the two workshops and merely reported during the workshop). 2) Finally there will be a discussion, question and answer with prospective NJIT Capstone sponsors and other benefactors. The discussion will cover: program and resource competencies; the opportunities and the expectations of all stakeholders; and the overall Next Gen NJIT Capstone program governance and associated processes.

Expected Outcomes: Understanding of the “The NJIT Next Gen Capstone” model; the roles of the capstone participants; the value of general oversight and structure of the NJIT Capstone program; Commitment to the Future of NJIT Capstones; sponsor and funder commitments for Spring, Summer and Fall 2012 semesters.
