Teaching and Research

New Jersey Institute of Technology offers almost 90 different degree programs, including 31 different undergraduate majors and 40 different graduate specializations. A listing of all of the possibilities may be found in the university catalog. Currently there are more than 8000 students enrolled at the university pursuing one of the above degree programs. There are more than 600 members of the faculty and instructional staff in any given semester, with the vast majority (>95%) of the tenured faculty having the appropriate terminal degree. The university is widely recognized for the quality of its education and many members of the faculty have won awards for their teaching.

The university also is proud to recognize its best teachers. A select group, each of whom has shown a sustained record of excellence in teaching, has received the designation of Master Teacher from the Provost. Also, each year the university recognizes several people with Excellence-in-Teaching Awards. These award winners are selected by a faculty committee that is composed of former winners.

New Jersey Institute of Technology is also well-known as a research university. Research funding has grown dramatically over the past several years. Many members of the faculty are actively engaged in research projects, which also involve large numbers of students. Many of these projects involve collaborations with partners from other universities and from industry; some of these partners are located in New Jersey, others come from across the country, and still others hail from around the world. A select group of faculty members, who are known both nationally and internationally for their work, may attain the rank of Distinguished Professor, the highest rank attainable to a regular member of the faculty.
