Placement testing is one of the most important steps in making sure that you are enrolled in courses that are academically appropriate for your level of preparation.
NJIT utilizes a computer based test for English and for Mathematics. All the incoming first year students must take the mathematics placement tests. Placements in first semester English courses are made on the basis of three scores from SAT Reasoning Test TM : the critical reading, writing and essay sections. Otherwise, students are placed based of the Accuplacer® (computer-based) test. A Chemistry test and/or Computer Science Test is also required for students in certain majors. See the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) web page for information about the tests required for individual majors.
Please Note: These tests are a critical component in determining your course placements. If you require accommodations for a disability during the placement exams, it is essential that you contact Dr. Phyllis Bolling at (973) 596-3414 to submit appropriate documentation of your disability and make arrangements for testing.
