AmberAmber Hicks is a sophomore in Information Technology with a minor in management.  She has lived all over the east coast, coming to rest in Bloomingdale, New Jersey.  She graduated from Butler High School in 2007.  She is very active member of the NJIT community and participates in several different organizations.  She loves reading, video games, music, movies and epic adventures.

Major/Graduation Year:

Information Technology/2011

Hometown:

 Bloomingdale, NJ

Why NJIT?

I felt that NJIT offered the best in terms of my major and had one of the best reputations in the state in terms of the academic program.  Plus, I love the urban atmosphere and it’s proximity to NYC.

Why Information Technology?

I chose IT because I love the computers and I love design and creativity.

What do you like best at NJIT?

I love the small campus.  Not only do you know everyone who’s anyone, I can leave my room 4 minutes before class starts and be there on time.  SCORE!

Why Connections Miniversity?

I just love being involved!  CMV is the very first step in becoming an NJIT student and I want to be involved in the process of making everyone comfortable on NJIT and introducing them to what it means to be an NJIT student.   Coming to college can be a terrifying experience and I just want to show all the new students that it is not so bad---it’s a great opportunity to make friends and meet new people.  I’m still friends with the people I met through CMV and my cluster coordinator.

Clubs & Organizations:

Student Activities Council, Phi Eta Sigma, Greek Life and Sorority secretary.

Greatest Accomplishment:

Coming to college and maintaining an awesome GPA.

Career Goals:

To have a satisfying job that makes me feel accomplished and write a book.

Favorite Music:

Everything!!!  I’m very eclectic so if you turn on my Zune you’ll hear some of everything.  R&B, Hip Hop, Country, Rock, Rap, Alternative, Japanese, Russian, Pop, Techno, Punk, Blues, Classical, Electronic, Disney, Heavy Metal, Indie, Latin.....the list goes on and on.  But my absolute favorite singer is Ne-yo.

Favorite Movie:

Any movie with Will Smith, Mummy 1 & 2, and 28 Days Later.

Favorite Book:

There are definitely far too many to pin down (I read religiously) but my favorite series has to be His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and the Amber Spyglass.

Favorite Class:

Wait…is this a rhetorical question?  Just kidding, it has to be IT 201 - Introduction to Design.
