Matthew Negron is a freshman within the newly formed School of Art and Design at NJIT's College of Architecture and Design. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, but does not have a New York accent, because he was raised in Union, NJ since he was three years old. Growing up he played every sport imaginable, but at an early age Matt fell in love with Martial Arts. Recently he has picked up swimming and has slowly fallen in love with the sport and the team at NJIT. Matt attended Seton Hall Prep for high school and ever since he was a kid he has always had a bundle of energy. He enjoys exerting his energy through jet skiing, tubing, working out, and through competition fighting. Major/Graduation Year:
Industrial Design and Accelerated MBA, Marketing Concentration/ 2013
Hometown:
Union, NJ
Why NJIT?
NJIT is a good university choice, because of the diversity that is possesses. It is diverse in forms of schools, previous education, race, culture, experiences, and mentality. NJIT is a small campus, which allows for easy connections for peers and it allows students to truly know the campus, who and what is on it, and what is offered (example SAC events).
Why Industrial Design?
As a kid I loved to design new things, or take things I saw and try to improve upon them or make them look better. With Industrial Design I can take that love and passion and apply it to the real world and hopefully bring a fresh twist into various industries.
What do you like best at NJIT?
One of the best things I enjoy about NJIT is the accessibility of academic help. CAPE is one of the best things NJIT has to offers for students, especially freshman that are trying to adapt to the college level work.
Why Connections Miniversity?
I decided to do Miniversity to become more involved on NJIT campus rather than just being an athlete on campus. I want to make a difference for the incoming freshman and give them the best quality NJIT experience they can have.
Clubs & Organizations:
NJIT Swim Team
Greatest Accomplishment:
My greatest accomplishment was becoming New Jersey State Champion in Sparring (Fighting) and Forms
Career Goals:
After graduating from NJIT I would like to work for a firm in designing Jet Ski’s and Boats. I want to be successful at the firm early in life so I can enjoy riding the Jet Ski I designed at my lake house. Once I have a locked in job I would like to find a way to help those with cancer, and I would like to open a restaurant.
Favorite Music:
Alternative/Modern/Hard Rock and Hip Hop
Favorite Movie:
Transformers! Probably the Greatest Movie ever made
Favorite Book:
The Road Less Traveled
Favorite Class:
No, classes have really grown on me yet this year, but I would say my two favorite classes so far are physics and management. I like physics and management, because you can apply what you learn to real world problems and situations.
