Connections Miniversity Mission & Goals
Mission
"By fostering a connection to NJIT, Connections Miniversity will provide a successful transition into the diverse university life for first year students. Through a variety of programs, experiences, and services, an understanding of academic expectations, university policies, and support services will be achieved, as well as creating opportunities for personal and social development. Connections Miniversity Freshmen Orientation seeks to enhance the university’s retention efforts by assisting new students to become an integral part of the NJIT community."

Goals
•To share with incoming first year students the traditions and culture of the NJIT community, while promoting an atmosphere which values diversity, and fosters respect for others.To familiarize incoming first year students with the campus environment and facilities.
• To introduce incoming first year students to university resources that will support their educational and personal development.
• To provide comprehensive information and exposure to student services, co-curricular programs, clubs and organizations.
• To assist incoming first year students in understanding their rights, responsibilities and opportunities within their new academic home and community.
• To provide incoming first year students with information and a forum for discussion on issues affecting student life including personal safety, substance abuse, multiculturalism, personal responsibility and community living.
• To provide employment, leadership, and learning opportunities for student staff members through comprehensive selection, training, supervision and evaluation programs.
• To support the academic success of first year students as the first step in the NJIT retention initiative.
Outcomes
• Incoming first year students will learn about learn about the traditions and culture of NJIT.
• Incoming first year students will become familiar with the campus environment and facilities.
• Incoming first year students will obtain knowledge about their major course of study including their college and major.
• Incoming first year students will meet and develop relationships with faculty, staff, other new students as well as current students.
• Incoming first year students will learn about university resources that will support their educational, social and personal development.
• Incoming first year students will learn about the university expectations and the NJIT Honor Code.
• Incoming first year students will learn how the importance of diversity and respect for others is conducive to campus involvement and life as a college student and beyond.
• Incoming first year students will learn about issues affecting college life including personal safety, substance abuse, personal responsibility and community living.
• Incoming first year students will begin to form connections to the university through meeting and sharing with other perspective and current students, as well as with faculty and staff.
