Welcome!  We are pleased that you have chosen to continue your academic career with us.  We know that new transfer students, while familiar with college in general, need specific information to ensure a smooth transition. The following information provides you with what you need to know and/or respond to before classes begin.

TUITION

A bill will be sent to you after you register.  Please refer to bill for payment options.  If you have any questions, you may contact an account representative.  The numbers are listed on the bill.  Should you prefer, you may also pay direct on-line at my.njit.edu

PLEASE USE HIGHLANDER PIPELINE to make credit card or electronic check (E-check) payments to your bill.  We accept MASTERCARD, DISCOVER, and AMERICAN EXPRESS.  Please note: A  2.75% non-refundable transaction fee will be added to each credit card transaction.


FINANCIAL AID

To check the status of your financial aid application or to review your awards, go to my.njit.edu.  If you have not fulfilled your requirements for financial aid, please do so immediately to ensure that your financial aid disburses at the start of the semester.  If you have not yet applied for financial aid, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to file your application.  If this is the first time you are applying for financial aid, you will have to apply for an US Department of Higher Education PIN. To do so, go to www.pin.ed.gov. If you are a dependent student for financial aid eligibility purposes, your parent(s) will have to apply for a PIN as well.  Please visit www.njit/financialaid for more information about financial aid programs, including student employment.  If you have any questions about financial aid, please call 973 596-3479.


ACADEMIC ADVISING

Your acceptance letter indicated the name and phone number of your academic advisor.  You must meet with your academic advisor before you will be allowed to register.  Each department will have an academic advisor available on Wednesdays.  If you have any questions concerning academic advising, please call the Center for First Year Students at 973-596-2981.

ACADEMIC ADVISING HOLD

An electronic hold has been placed on your access to registration.  Your academic advisor is the only person who can remove this hold.  So, call your advisor to arrange an appointment at your earliest convenience.


REGISTRATION

Registration is available on-line at the Registrar’s website: www.njit.edu/registrar.  Complete registration information and instructions are available at this site.

Please remember: You must meet with your academic advisor before you register.

Note:  International students will not be able to register until after they have attended International Student Orientation.

Please note that if you sent in a student copy or an unofficial transcript, NJIT credit will only be awarded after the official transcript is received.

Students who have attended a University/College in a foreign country and have had their formal academic credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), will have their course work evaluated by a faculty evaluation team chaired by the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Studies.  

It is strongly recommended that you provide additional information regarding courses completed (course syllabi, course description, etc).  Forward the additional course information to the following address as soon as possible (ASP) to:

TRANSFER CREDIT FROM NEW JERSEY COMMUNITY COLLEGES

Students who transfer to NJIT from any New Jersey county college should review the Comprehensive State-Wide Transfer Agreement for guidelines concerning transferability of credits from New Jersey public community colleges to NJ public four-year institutions.


EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM (EOP)

If you have been part of the EOP Program at your previous school, you must speak with Mr. Robert Igbinovia at NJIT’s Educational Opportunity Program as soon as possible to arrange for continued participation while attending NJIT.  Please call Mr. Igbinovia at 973-596-3690.


RESIDENCE LIFE

How do I apply for housing?

Applying for housing is easy; you can do it all online!  You must be admitted to NJIT in order to apply for housing.  Complete the following steps below to apply for housing:

  1. Log onto www.njit.edu/reslife and click “Online Housing Application.”
  2. Log-in using your UCID and password.  If you don’t remember your UCID, just go to directory.njit.edu and search for you own name.  Your UCID is the beginning of your NJIT email address (i.e. John Smith would appear as js1234@njit.edu, js1234 is the UCID).  (If you haven’t created your UCID and password, go to ist.njit.edu/accounts/ucid.php and follow the instructions.)
  3. Complete the application and contract.  Be sure to review the “Terms and Conditions of Contract.”
  4. Submit a one-time $50 non-refundable housing deposit (credit card, check or money order, payable to NJIT).
  5. Sit back and relax! We will send you an email to your NJIT email account with your room assignment information after the new year.


CENTER FOR ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL ENRICHMENT

The Center for Academic and Professional  Enrichment (CAPE) provides academic support services and activities to enhance students’ academic and professional development.  The CAPE works with  academic departments to help students develop the Necessary analytical and problem-solving skills to become independent learners.  Many students utilize The CAPE to help increase their academic achievement,  while others seek to strengthen their academic skills and enhance their problem-solving ability.

The Center offers a full range of learning services.  Individual and group tutoring takes place in the CAPE    during the day and in the dorms during evening hours.   Peer tutoring and study groups in a variety of disciplines are available for undergraduate students at scheduled times and by appointment.  A computer lab, audio/visual Resources, reference materials, and space for study Sessions are provided in the CAPE.  The staff also hosts  workshops in Time Management, Study Skills, Test Preparation, and Learning Styles.  In addition, the CAPE partners with the Counseling Center and provides testing accommodations for students with disabilities.

The Center for Academic and Professional Enrichment is  located in 200 Kupfrian Hall.  During the Fall and Spring   semesters, the Center is open Monday through Thursday  from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.; Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. hours vary during the Summer and Winter sessions.  For additional information, please contact us at 973-596-2992.  We invite you to visit our website at www.njit.edu/cape.


HEALTH FORMS

Immunization and entrance physical exam forms are available on-line at www.njit.edu/HealthServices.   Scroll down on the left-hand side of the page and click on immunization.  The immunization form and physical form are highlighted in red.  These forms are requirements of the State of NJ and NJIT.  Please submit the completed forms to the Student Health Services immediately.  If you have not completed a vaccination series prior to starting classes, please submit the information you currently have, and contact Health Services for further instruction.  Health Services is located in the Fleisher Athletic Center, 80 Lock Street, Newark, NJ 07102.  Forms may be mailed, hand delivered, or fact to 973-596-5517. Forms will not be accepted through e-mail due to confidentiality concerns.

You may be deregistered from class or a health hold placed on your account if these documents are not submitted.

Information regarding insurance is also available on line at the above website address.  Click on Health Insurance for further information.  If you intend to waive NJIT’s student Health Insurance, you may do so on-line only at https://mis4.njit.edu/insurancewaiver/Login.aspx.  You may also do so on the health services website above, under Health insurance and click on Insurance Waiver in bold print.  You will be able to waive until the deadline date specified on the website.  Please keep your confirmation number as proof of completing the waiver. NOTE: Submission of health insurance information to Health Services with your medical records does not waive the NJIT insurance.  The on-line waiver must be completed.

PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

The coordination of accommodation for qualified persons with disabilities is performed by the Coordinator of  Student Disability Services in the NJIT Counseling Center.  If you have a disability, the Coordinator of Student Disability Services is available to help you obtain the academic accommodations you may need to pursue your educational goals.  To initiate the process to receive accommodations, please contact Dr. Phyllis Bolling at 973-596-3414.  In addition, please be aware that the procedures for obtaining accommodations include: (1) contacting the Counseling Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, (2) meeting with the Coordinator of Disability Services to discuss your needs, (3) providing appropriate documentation of your disability, and (4) completing appropriate forms and following appropriate procedures.


PERSONAL COMPUTERS

Beginning with the fall 2004 semester, the university has instituted a computer requirement for all incoming undergraduate students.  All incoming transfer students are  required to have a computer meeting minimum specifications in their place of residence.  Transfers entering the New Jersey School of Architecture are required to purchase a specific desktop computer model and keep it in the architecture studio.

The university licenses all NJIT students for a suite of software that includes Microsoft Windows operating system upgrades, Microsoft Office, virus protection, and tools for software development, mathematical programming, and statistical analysis.  Computer-aided design software is provided for those major programs requiring such.  Complete information on the computer requirement, including details on ordering a model from Dell Computer Corporation is available at ist.njit.edu/compreq.


STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES PROGRAM

The Student Support Services Program is a federally funded program that provides academic support services to eligible students.  Eligibility is based on financial need, first generation college student status and/or disabilities, combined with academic need.  The program works in close collaboration with the Educational Opportunity Program, the University Learning Center and the Ronald E. McNair Postaccalaureate Achievement Program, as well as other departments at NJIT.  Services offered include academic tutoring, counseling, financial aid guidance, financial literacy education, graduate and professional school preparation, mentoring, and workshops. NJIT PHOTO ID

Every transfer student must report to the Security Systems, Photo Identification and Parking Services Department, which is Located in the Laurel Hall Extension (131 Summit Street) to obtain an NJIT photo ID card.  This card must be carried at all times, to be presented upon request as valid identification while on campus.  Students must be registered for classes before reporting to the Photo ID office.  Hours of operation are available on-line at www.njit.edu/parking and are typically Monday thru Friday (9AM-11AM & 1PM-3PM) with extended hours (4PM-6PM) for the first two weeks of each semester.

Your NJIT Photo ID card will be programmed for use at NJIT parking lot gates upon registering your vehicles for parking on-line at  www.njit.edu/parking.  Your NJIT Photo ID card can also be programmed by the Gourmet Dining department for use of the Cafeteria Meal Plan as needed by each individual.  For access to library privileges, students should visit the circulation desk in the Van Houten Library located on 200 Central Avenue.  Your NJIT Photo ID card will access the Residence Halls once your information has been submitted to us from your residence hall supervisor.  Hours of operation for the Security Systems and Parking Services vary each semester and will be posted in the New Campus Center, Registrar’s office, the Residence Halls and the Department of Public Safety.  If you have any questions, please visit our new web site at www.njit.edu/parking or call us at 973-642-7190.


CAMPUS PARKING

Every vehicle parking in NJIT lots must be registered with the Security Systems, Photo Identification and Parking Services Department, must display a valid parking permit for the semester.  Parking registration should be done via the web at www.njit.edu/parking and is available to all students who have registered for classes. Parking registration information is e-mailed to eligible students who are registered for classes prior to the start of each semester.  Upon registering for parking, a separate parking fee will be charged to your student account with the NJIT Bursar’s Office and a parking tag will be mailed to the address you choose on line.  The Parking Services Department is located in the Laurel Hall Extension (131 Summit Street) and can be reached by phone at 973-642-7190..  Registration information is also available at the front desk of the Department of Public Safety, located in the 2nd level of the parking facility on Summit Street.

BS/MS/MBA/PhD

NJIT undergraduate students who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better prior to the beginning of their junior year and have completed at least five major courses may seek approval to enter the BS/MS/MBA/PhD.  The BS/MS/MBA/PhD. programs allows undergraduate students to enroll in two or four graduate level courses and use the graduate credits twice --- initially for credit towards the undergraduate and later for the graduate degree.  Graduate level courses are included with other current classes and charged at the undergraduate rate.   

Students may shift BS/MS/MBA/PhD. graduate credits to the graduate record at no additional charge within two years of graduation.  Participation in the BS/MS/MBA/PhD. program amounts to a potential savings of over $6,000.00 in graduate tuition.
